Documents to Carry for a Job Interview in Tamil Nadu: A Checklist for Every Job Type
Carry your Aadhaar card, two passport-size photos, a printed resume, and photocopies of your certificates, plus the originals to show (not hand over). Drivers add their licence; delivery riders add licence, RC and insurance. Never pay a fee or leave originals with an employer.
For most job interviews in Tamil Nadu, carry your Aadhaar card, two passport-size photos, two printed copies of your resume, and photocopies of your certificates, with the originals in a separate folder to show if asked. Then add the few extra documents your job type needs, listed below.
Everything fits in one plastic file folder. Arriving with your papers neat and ready tells the employer you are serious, even before you speak.
The basic checklist (every job)
| Document | Originals or copies? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Aadhaar card | Original + 2 photocopies | ID and address proof |
| Passport-size photos | 2–4 photos | Joining forms, ID cards |
| Resume | 2 printed copies | Even for blue-collar jobs, it helps you stand out |
| 10th / 12th / degree certificates | Photocopies (originals to show) | Education proof |
| PAN card | Photocopy, if you have one | Needed for salary and PF later |
| Bank passbook first page | Photocopy | For salary credit after you join |
| Previous experience or relieving letter | Photocopy, if any | Shows work history |
| A working pen | — | You'll fill a form. Don't borrow one |
Tip: keep clear photos of all of these on your phone too, in one folder. Many employers will ask you to send them on WhatsApp later.
Extra documents by job type
Driver jobs (car, van, company driver)
- Driving licence: original + photocopy. Make sure the licence covers the vehicle type in the job post.
- Experience letter, or the name and number of a previous employer who can confirm your driving
- If the job uses your own vehicle: RC and valid insurance
Employers may ask for a short test drive, so be ready.
Delivery and bike jobs
- Two-wheeler driving licence
- If using your own bike: RC, valid insurance and pollution certificate (PUC)
- Smartphone with enough storage for the delivery app
Telecaller, office and customer support jobs
- Resume with your languages clearly listed (Tamil, English, others)
- Any computer course certificate (MS Office, Tally, typing) if you have one
Tip: the interview often starts on the phone. See telecaller interview questions and answers.
Accountant and billing jobs
- B.Com / M.Com certificates (copies) and originals to show
- Tally / GST course certificates if you have them
- Expect a short practical test on Tally or Excel
Shop, showroom, hotel and kitchen jobs
- Aadhaar, photos and a short resume are usually enough
- For hotel/kitchen: details of where you worked before, and what dishes or sections you handled
Factory and warehouse jobs
- Aadhaar, photos, education certificates (copies)
- Bank details. Many factories set up salary and PF accounts on the first day.
- If a hostel is provided, ask what documents the hostel needs too
Originals: show them, don't leave them
This is the most important point. Show your original certificates for verification, then take them back. Give only photocopies.
If an employer insists on keeping your originals (10th, 12th, degree or licence), be careful. Many people in Tamil Nadu have had trouble getting their certificates back when they wanted to leave a job. If they still insist, ask why in writing, or don't join.
Warning signs at an interview
Walk away if you see any of these:
- A "registration fee", "training fee", "ID card fee" or "uniform deposit" before you join
- The company won't give its address or full name
- The "interview" is only on WhatsApp and asks you to pay or invest to unlock tasks
- They want your bank OTP, ATM PIN or UPI PIN, for any reason
Genuine employers do not charge you to get a job. Every job on Tamizha Jobs is free to apply for, and you can report a job from its page if someone asks you for money.
The night before your interview
- Put all documents in one folder, in the order of the checklist above.
- Charge your phone fully. The employer may call to give directions.
- Check the route on Google Maps and plan to arrive 15 minutes early.
- Read the job post again: salary, timings, location. Prepare one question to ask.
- Wear clean, simple clothes. A well-ironed shirt or churidar is enough for most jobs.

Frequently asked questions
Should I give my original certificates to the employer?
Show your originals for verification, but give only photocopies. Be very careful if an employer asks to keep your original certificates. Many people have had trouble getting them back. Ask for the reason in writing, or don't accept the job.
Do I need a resume for a blue-collar job interview?
It helps. Even a one-page resume with your name, phone number, address, education, work experience and languages makes you look prepared. Carry two printed copies.
What documents does a driver need for a job interview?
Your original driving licence (and a photocopy), Aadhaar, photos, and any experience letter from a previous employer. If the job uses your own vehicle, also carry its RC and valid insurance.
Is it normal to pay a registration or uniform fee at the interview?
No. A genuine employer does not charge you to apply or to get a job. If anyone asks for a registration, training, ID card or uniform fee before you join, treat it as a warning sign.
